Punisher Co-Creator Gerry Conway Raises $77k for Black Lives Matter with New Skull Designs 💀
Punisher writer and co-creator Gerry Conway released a Custom Ink campaign to raise money for Black Lives Matter.
In a message to supporters, Conway thanked them for raising more than $77,000 for BLMLA. Read his mission statement and supporter update below.
“For too long, symbols associated with a character I co-created have been co-opted by forces of oppression and to intimidate black Americans. This character and symbol was never intended as a symbol of oppression. This is a symbol of a systematic failure of equal justice. It’s time to claim this symbol for the cause of equal justice and Black Lives Matter.” —Gerry Conway
The creator of this art is Don Nguyen: "It's inspired by the Punisher logo and the Black power/solidarity fist. Gerry asked to incorporate the Punisher skull, Black Lives matter, and a red tear while keeping the white skull on black background motif. I added "BLM" as red knuckles because the movement is against police brutality and, to me, a bloodied fist signifies that struggle. I'm a comic book artist based in Los Angeles and the creator of Pablo the Gorilla, Jupiter the Space Pug, and the Kindle #1 Inktober book Siren's Song with writer Andy Nordvall. I want to continue honing my craft, establish my place in the comic book community and work on creating good things." @NguyeningIt
Dear Supporters:
It's over-- the Skulls For Justice campaign for Black Lives Matter was a rousing success, raising more than $77,000 for BLMLA, and it's all due to you, the folks who bought a shirt (or two, or three).
Thank you.
Thank you from the artists who worked so hard creating unique designs, thank you from Laura and thank you from me.
I'm proud to be part of this community.
(And if we ever go to conventions again, and you drop by my table, I'll sign your shirt for free. Yay?)
Best
Gerry

It’s the high fashion look of the summer, folks. @ConwayLauraB and her hapless sidekick model what the cool kids will be wearing to a protest near you. Support #BlackLivesMatter #BLM with a #SkullsforJustice t-shirt: https://t.co/4qwY20a3S7 pic.twitter.com/rAwUaJcWKb
