New Comic Book Day News Reactions!

Did you hear about the corduroy pillow?

Here are the headlines:

NBC Universal is leaning on comics writer Grant Morrison to start a comic company.

Morrison is currently a writer and producer of Peacock’s Brave New World adaptation. UCP Graphic is teamed up with Boom! Studios to bring Proctor Valley Road by Morrison and screenwriter Alex Child to comic shops. This is all a part of the Supergods author’s 2018 multi-year deal with Universal, who brought Happy to SyFy.

REACTION: CHEERS! It’s about time Grant Morrison (love him or hate him) cashes in on his independent creations after giving mainstream comics so much. And this interstellar move makes sense if you glimpse into his mind after reading Supergods.

REACTION: UNCERTAIN! I’m going to say that I strongly love 50% of Tom’s work, but the stuff I like, I really dig. He’s a personality, he loves comics, that much is clear. I am hoping, like some of the critics of the series in general that a) it doesn’t suck, b) it has half of the concepts from the TV sequel c) is as good as Darwyn’s take on Watchmen d) isn’t tone-deaf to the intense social and economic times we are in. There’s so much going on, we can’t judge the book by it’s gorgeous Jorge Fornés art. Let’s wait and see.
