G.C.P.D. Series Headed to HBO Max

Taking a cue from the Mighty Marvel, DC has decided to integrate their upcoming The Batman movie with a Gotham City Police Department television show on HBO Max. No word on if Robert Pattinson’s Batman will make an appearance.

The Batman director Matt Reeves is teamed up with Boardwalk Empire creator Terrence Winter for the Jim Gordon and Friends HBO Max show set in the world of Reeves’ Gotham.

Gotham, a Bruce Wayne and villain origin story over 5 seasons ended on FOX last year. The HBO series will call on Gotham Central, Ed Brubaker & Greg Rucka’s early 2000s comic book work drawn by Michael Lark. Judging from the press release below, we have no reason to think it won’t be.

Check out highlights from the press release from DC below.

“This is an amazing opportunity,” said Reeves. “Not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longform format can afford—and getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream.”

  • To be written by Winter and addressing anatomy of corruption in G.C.P.D.

  • HBO Max and other platforms will expand the world of Reeves’ The Batman

  • The Batman is expected in theatres October 1, 2021

  • Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, Boardwalk Empire) stars as Commissioner Gordon in the film

  • Wright not confirmed as playing Gordon on the show
